Our People

We're a Family.

How We Got Here

Jason Power and Jonathan Barber met while working at another law firm.  Together, they launched Barber Power Law Group on May 5, 2016 with the vision of developing lifelong relationships with their clients, promoting transparency in billing practices, building a family-focused law firm, and becoming a major player in the franchise industry.  Jason's deep network of contacts and decade of franchise experience combine with Jonathan's entrepreneurial spirit and client service skills to offer our clients an exceptional experience.

During the firm's first year, both Jason and Jonathan each welcomed daughters into their families.  In March of 2017, Sandra Sampler joined the team as an office administrator.  Then, in June of 2017, Jack Randolph became the first legal assistant intern.  Upon Jack's graduation from Central Piedmont Community College, he officially joined the team as a paralegal in January 2018.  The firm is positioned for growth, and Jason and Jonathan are excited for what the future holds.  Learn more about the Barber Power Law Group team below.

Jason Power Attorney

Jason W. Power

Jason technically entered the legal profession when he was in high school, working as a legal assistant for a large firm in Florida.  He stayed at that firm, learning the ins-and-outs of operating a law firm, until he, himself, entered law school.  Jason briefly worked at another firm after becoming licensed to practice law.  However, he quickly learned that he wanted to work for himself and he went into partnership with a former classmate.  That firm operated exclusively within the franchise industry for several years until Jason and Jonathan formed Barber Power Law Group.

Jason has an international client base, and most of his clients have been with him for years.  He takes exceptional pride in the trust he builds with franchisors and enjoys helping them grow.  Jason has also presented at franchise expos and other speaking engagements across the country.  When he is not working with franchisors, Jason enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids, working out, and visiting his family in Florida and Louisiana.  Ask Jason about marching in St. Patty's Day parades.

Jonathan Barber Attorney

Jonathan N. Barber

Jonathan figured out he wanted to become a lawyer during his senior year of undergraduate study.  He had spent several summers and semesters interning in corporate finance, operations, and investments with some big names like Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Genworth Financial.  However, Jonathan had a passion for working with entrepreneurs and small businesses.  This led him to law school where he studied transactional law.

Right after passing the North Carolina bar exam, Jonathan became an adjunct professor of business law at a local community college and he took his first position as an associate attorney, working under Jason Power.  While Jonathan is well-versed and experienced in corporate transactions and litigation, when it comes to franchise law, he is an apprentice to Jason, who is basically a Jedi Master.  When Jonathan isn't furiously drafting documents or on the phone with opposing counsel, he loves spending time with his wife and daughter and their cocker spaniel, Gus.  He is an active member of Forest Hill Church, and volunteers with several nonprofits around Charlotte.  Jonathan also brews his own beer and has drafted portions of the current alcoholic beverage laws in North Carolina.
